Designs seek to create a calm, subservient and contextual addition, adopting vernacular materials and detailing them in a crisp and contemporary manner.
Historic analysis of Charity Farm shows that its form and plan have expanded and contracted since its construction in the late 17th Century, with its current form representing the latest iteration in this process.
The intention therefore was to create a calm, subservient and contextual addition, adopting vernacular materials and detailing them in a crisp and contemporary manner.
The existing built form has seen incremental change and development over the centuries with a series of ad hoc additions leading to a an internal residential organisation ill suited to the activities of a modern young family, with small living spaces and a lack of individual privacy.
The additional form responds to the order of the listed dwelling, continuing the linear plan of the listed building. An additional living space allows the internal organisation to breathe, offering opportunities for individual privacy and intimate play spaces.
The southern aspect opens up with an expanse of glazing, drinking in the bucolic countryside views and inviting sunlight into the interior spaces.
